West Papua has been occupied by the Indonesian Military since 1963 and has suffered relentless killing, torture, intimidation and imprisonment. Indonesia is trying to wipe out the identity of the West Papuan people.
The military has been burning school books, the West Papuan Morning Star flag has been banned as has the national anthem and all symbols of our proud people are being destroyed by the Indonesian military.
The colonization began in 1969 after a referendum took place which has been widely denounced as illegal. Whilst colonization has been ending around the world, we Papuans are still under colonial rule – now that of the Indonesians after many years of Dutch rule before then.
Very few in the outside world are aware of what is happening in West Papua today. The foreign media is banned, and the few tourists who do visits are kept to a few sites where they can ben controlled by the Indonesian military.
We need you to support West Papua to be free from Indonesian colonial rule. We need you to be the voice of the West Papuan people.
Dear friend of West Papua, hear my people’s cry for freedom.
Wa wa
Papua Merdeka
